How to choose (continued)
- See if they have a portfolio of their work either on-line or in a scrapbook. Ask for references.
- Ask about their warranty(most body shops are required to have a warranty), ask to see a pamplet to read it over later.
- Ask for a tour of the facility(some places are afraid to show you around, stay away from those). Look for a work area. There should be an area where the actual body work is done(sanding, stripping, primering, and fill work). Don't be afraid to ask questions.
- Be sure to ask questions like, "How long will it take to do?" and "Have you worked with Mercedes or Porsches (or whatever your car is) in the past?" to see if they're experienced with your vehicle.
- See their work. Ask to see a car or they're working on.
- Look for credentials!
- This is your car, be sure to show you care.
3.) Does my insurance company have the right to choose who does my repairs?
No. Although some insraunce companies try to give the impression that only "company approved" collision centers may be used, most states have laws to ensure that you have the right to choose which collision center you want to repair and restore your vehicle. Look for the collision center that will do the best job at repairing and restoring your vehicle to its safest conditiona and will do the best work in restoring it to original condition. Do not be intimidated by insurance service people who might try to lead you astray. The safety of your family and the value and safety of your vehicle are at stake.
